Statement by Visual Arts Director Clyde Fowler, of NC School of the Arts
As a student at the North Carolina School of The Arts, Louis St.Lewis defined his world with an impressive creative edge. Because of his personal flair, sense of style, and aesthetic vitality, even his appearance was often considered a theatrical event. As an artist, Louis transforms the mundane nature of everyday experience through a process which heightens both visual and conceptual sensation. His imagery can be thought provoking, lavish, cynical, humorous and outrageous - terms which also describe this artist. Louis St.Lewis' sensibility may be somewhat pagan, but his vision is profound.
