Flora, Louis St.Lewis, Lisa Bonet
Flora
mixed media on canvas
38 x 27

Flora one of St.Lewis' most androgynous paintings may well be one of the most autobiographical. Different in particulars but strongly reminiscent of Caravaggio's "Bacchus", a yellow faced, black featured, self possessed Shiva figure, with one male and one female breast, stares tough and tender from under a gorgeous headdress of red, red roses. Like many of St.Lewis' paintings it is opulent and decorative. In fact, several of his paintings are draped with either metallic cord or swags of red velvet draperies, which fall across the floor in blood red pools.
